Padmamma, president, Hunsur Taluk Panchayat, and some women Mysuru ZP members on Friday accused A.H. Vishwanath, former Minister and Hunsur JD(S) MLA, of allegedly showing disrespect to women during the KDP meeting at the taluk panchayat recently.
At a press conference here, Ms. Padmamma, a Congress member, alleged that Mr. Vishwanath admonished her when she wanted a reply from the officials on replenishing water in Somanahalli Lakel “I was hurt by his action. I have the right to seek a reply being an elected member,” she said.
Congress ZP members Pushapavathi Amarnath and Jayalakshmi Rajanna, both from Hunsur, said the MLA was of the view that the husbands of elected women representatives must be present at the meeting, perhaps indicating “that the women members were unable to comprehend issues”.
“We want a clarification from the MLA on his comments, since women are equally competent and successfully representing their constituencies. What is the need of women members if their husbands have to attend the meetings,” asked Ms. Amarnath, also a former ZP president.
