PALANPUR/RAJKOT: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in north
Gujarat districts beginning Friday. Banaskantha collector Sandip Sagale has initiated all precautionary measures to combat the situation and directed all officials not to leave the headquarters. An alert has been sounded and an NDRF team is also on standby.
“We have initiated all precautionary measures to meet any eventuality. He attributed the flood-like situation in the district to the influx from catchment areas in Rajasthan,” he said. IMD has predicted rains in Banaskantha, Patan,
Mehsana, Sabarkantha and Aravalli. Last monsoon, Banaskantha and Patan were ravaged by massive floods that left 100 dead and inflicted huge damage .
Heavy to moderate showers heralded the beginning of monsoon in Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar of Saurashtra region and
Mundra, Hajipir, Khavda and Madhapar in Kutch district on Thursday. According to IMD, in Ramod, Sandhvaya, Satapar and Karmad Kotad villages in Kotda Sangani taluka of Rajkot district and Khadsali, Chhapri, Dedakadi, Dadhia, Vijpadi and Gadhia villages in Savarkundala taluka of Amreli district, 50mm rainfall was recorded.
