Yadav reviews implementation of Central schemes in Assam

Union Minister Ram Kripal Yadav today reviewed various schemes of the Union Rural Development Ministry in and said the pace of implementing them needs to be accelerated for effective

"The Prime minister has put emphasis on improving living conditions in the rural areas and we are working towards providing all facilities in the rural parts. Today I reviewed the main schemes in presence of state officials," Yadav said at a press conference here.

Talking about the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the Union Minister of State for Rural Development said a target of 8,83,983 houses was set for construction in the state by 2019, based on 2011 census.

"However, only 30 per cent work has been completed so far. The state department has assured of meeting the target by the deadline. The state minister has told us that staffs were engaged in updation work. He has placed before us a roadmap to achieve the target and we are hopeful," Yadav said.

Regarding the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the Union minister said that out of targeted 27,000 km roads, 17,000 km have already been constructed and the remaining will be done in near future and all villages with population of 500-1,000 will be connected through this scheme.

"After completion of the first phase of PMGSY, the second phase work will be given to the state," he added.

Under Indira Awas Yojana, 2.80 lakh incomplete houses have been completed, Yadav said.

On implementation of MGNREGA, he informed that the performance of the state has been good.

Yadav, however, pointed out that women's share under the scheme in the state was 35-40 per cent against national average of 65 per cent.

Among other schemes reviewed during the meeting include the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gramin Kaushal and water conservation schemes.

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley was present at the meeting.
