Even though the trailer for the second installment of The Crew dropped more than a year ago, our first official review comes just now, courtesy of IGN.

Granted, last summer’s in-game footage was Pre-Alpha, and what you see here is the final version running on XBox One X. The Crew 2 is also available on PlayStation 4 as well as Microsoft Windows (PC).

There’s no denying the fact that the game looks pretty impressive most of the time, while at other times it just looks unrealistic. Sure, it’s an arcade racing game focused on fun above all else, but last time we checked, Miami didn’t experience too many snow blizzards.

There there are the buildings, which seem a bit off, even compared to something like GTA V, whose graphics aren’t exactly the best thing in 2018.

But if all you want to do is race by land, sea, or air, then this is definitely the game for you. OK, you can do those things in GTA, too, but you have to land/stop and find another vehicle in order to mix things up, whereas in The Crew 2 you can switch between vehicles in a split second.

In the end, this game is described as “big, confident and stuffed with arcade racing action,” which sounds fun, sure, but don’t expect it to hold you over if you’re also interested in any sort of realistic racing. For that, you can always switch to something like Forza, Gran Turismo, Project CARS or Assetto Corsa.
