NEW DELHI: The Centre on Friday asked states to begin doorstep delivery of foodgrain as part of the Public Distribution System (PDS) to avoid any starvation death.
The direction came even as the Delhi government alleged that the lieutenant governor was yet to clear its proposal on doorstep delivery of subsidised foodgrain.
“The National Food Security Act provides that every identified beneficiary should receive subsidised foodgrain. Every state should ensure that foodgrain is delivered to people who cannot reach ration shops to pick it. States can assign their officials to supply foodgrain to such persons individually,” Union minister
Ram Vilas Paswan said.
