Tailor training programme for prisoners

A menswear company, in association with the government, today launched a training programme for the inmates of the Presidency Correctional Home in the city.

The state department of correctional administration has arranged for a set up inside the Presidency Correctional Home, besides providing sewing machines and looms for around 50 inmates to help them learn sewing and making clothes.

"These clothes will be available in all the flagship stores of Turtle as a special collection from August," a of the company, the Turtle Limited, said.

"The initiative will help the inmates to be freed from their captivity and accelerate the level of their acceptance in the society," OSD and ex-officio DG and IG of Correctional Services said.

Ujjwal Biswas, senior officials of the and representatives of Turtle were present at a function held on this occasion.

The training programme will start tomorrow.
