To launch relay hunger strike on July 2

Even as the district authorities have stepped up demolition work on government old high school premises to build a park, the opposition parties have decided to intensify their agitation against it.

The leaders of Congress, TDP, CPI, CPI(M), YSRC, TJS and others convened a meeting at R&B guesthouse on Friday here to discuss the future course of action to protect the government old high school. They have decided to launch a relay hunger strike on July 2 in front of the Collectorate and lay siege to the latter on July 9.

They have also decided to invite all the leaders of State parties to take part in their agitation. The leaders condemned demolishing a school to build a park denying education to the children of the poor and the downtrodden. They demanded that the government rebuild the demolished government junior college on the same premises and take up construction of the park on some other location.

Stating that providing education to students was also a mandatory clause in the Smart City project, they flayed the government for shifting the junior college to RIO office premises that lacks basic facilities such as library, laboratory, playground etc.

Karimnagar Congress president Karra Rajashekhar, CPI (M) district secretary G. Mukund Reddy, CPI leader P. Raju, YSRC leader K. Nagesh, TDP leader K. Agaiah, Dalit Muslim United Front leader M. Chandrashekhar and others were also present.
