There was some relief from rains in Shivamogga district on Friday. Though the rains, which have been lashing the district for the past three days, abated, Tunga, Bhadra, and Sharavathi rivers continued to be in spate.
Tunga was flowing close to the danger mark as water at the rate of 42,968 cusecs was being discharged to the river from the reservoir near Gajanur. The water level in Linganamakki and Bhadra reservoirs went up by three feet each in a span of 24 hours. The water level in Linganamakki reservoir which stood at 1,770 ft on Thursday rose to 1,773 ft on Friday. The inflow was at the rate of 40,639 cusecs.
The water level in the Bhadra reservoir which was 143 ft on Thursday went up to 146 ft on Friday. The inflow was at the rate of 23,564 cusecs. Standing crops on over 200 acres were submerged in rainwater in Sagar taluk. Yadur received 83 mm rain in the past 24 hours, Hulikal 71 mm, Mastikatte 57 mm, while 52 mm rain was recorded in Mani.
