After Naagin 3, the actor is ready to scare you yet again with her new horror show Qayamath Ki Raat. By Team Viva

When one thinks of the horror genre, one pictures an old haveli, creaking doors, a racing heart and jump scares. But there are many who are moving away from the traditional plotlines in the genre and mixing comedy, drama and romance to it. The deviations differ depending on the culture of the land in which the movie or TV show is made in. India, for instance, has used the trope of a tantric cursing lead characters multiple times.

A new TV show with Karishma Tanna called Qayamath Ki Raat has ventured into the same space yet again but it includes elements of romance and thriller as well. She believes that this new TV show, which started on June 23, is not over-the-top dramatic and the acting is natural, which grabbed her attention and prompted her to take it up. “It has strong content and it was being produced by Balaji which firmed up my resolve  to go for it. I know this serial falls more in the supernatural zone but the content is good and the character is challenging. Moreover, this is unlike other serials since it is a finite one-hour show. Every weekend, you’ll find something different,” she says.

Tanna has previously done a cameo in Naagin 3 and Vivek Dahiya, the male lead, has acted in a supernatural themed show Kavach. The current show is inspired by South Indian horror movies like Arundhati and the Ramsay brothers.  “It takes a lot of emotions when you do a fantasy thriller. You need a lot of energy because you need to act scared. There is rain and dust. It is not a regular daily soap where the girl is looking very pretty all the time but there are dreamy scenes as well. I would love to do shows also if the content is good but this I chose because it demanded a very energetic performance.”

Tanna will also be seen in the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Sanju which releases today and it is believed that she will play Madhuri Dixit in the Sanjay Dutt biopic.
