Actor Jai who was stopped near Nungambakkam on Tuesday night by the traffic police, for using a modified silencer in his car, was asked to record a video message requesting the public not to use such silencers. He was slapped with a fine of ₹1,100 for the offence.
On Tuesday night, the traffic police team was conducting regular checks near Nungambakkam. They spotted a car going past making jarring noise. They intercepted the car and found actor Jai in the passenger seat.
The actor stepped out and found the police recording the violation. “Hence he too cooperated and decided to spread awareness of not to use modified silencers in vehicles,” said a senior police officer attached to the Chennai Traffic Police.
In the 53-second-video, the actor advised the public that the police would stop and seize the vehicles fitted with modified silencers. He said that the jarring noise from the silencer would be a disturbance to birds and patients in hospitals.
The actor was then allowed to go after he paid the fine. He assured that he would not be using such modified equipment in his vehicles.
