Press Council team to visit J&K to assess media situation

A three-member fact-finding team of the of (PCI) will visit to assess "the scenario" in the backdrop of the recent killing of "Rising Kashmir" Shujaat Bukhari, an official statement said.

The team will be visiting the state from July 1-5 to make a "thorough study" into the present state of the Press and hold discussions with the family of Bukhari, and authorities.

"A three-member sub-committee comprising of Press Council's members, Pravat Kumar Dash, and will assess the scenario in the state," the statement said.

It said the Council also condemns BJP MLA Chaudhary Lal Singh for threatening journalists and said such statements, if made at public platforms, undermine the freedom of press.
