Former Demon Trengove to debut for Power
Former Melbourne captain Jack Trengove will make his debut for Port Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday.
Trengove, who joined the Power during last year's trade period as a delisted free agent, has impressed in the SANFL this year.
Power coach Ken Hinkley said Trengove, 26, deserved his spot against Carlton, having been a travelling emergency several times.
"As you can imagine, he was fairly excited. He's worked really hard and he's busting for a game," Hinkley said.
"He's done more miles than most of us – he's been to China, he's been to Perth, he's been to Tasmania – he's just not played, so now he gets to play."
Trengove was taken by the Demons with the second pick of the 2009 national draft and was installed as the VFL/AFL's youngest ever club captain in 2011 at just 20 years of age.
But the midfielder's career was derailed by foot problems. He was to have been a key plank of the Demons' rebuild alongside Tom Scully, who left to join Greater Western Sydney.
He has played in only 86 senior matches, including seven in the past four seasons. He signed a one-year deal with the Power.
The Power have dumped defender Darcy Byrne-Jones for arriving late to a training session.
