Man charged over Eurydice Dixon memorial graffiti

A 31-year-old man has been charged with criminal damage after allegedly painting offensive graffiti at the Princes Park memorial set up to remember Eurydice Dixon.

The graffiti was done the night before a public vigil was held at the park to remember Ms Dixon.

The 21-year-old emerging comedian was killed as she walked home from a gig at the Highland Bar in the CBD on June 13.

Her body was found by a passer-by in the middle of a soccer pitch at Princes Park, Carlton North, about 2.40am. Jaymes Todd, 19, has been charged with her rape and murder.

Just days after her death, police officers doing routine patrols of the area found lewd paint markings on the soccer pitch where her body was found.

The flowers and other memorial items at the site were not disturbed.

Firefighters were immediately called to remove the paint with a high-pressure hose, and council workers covered the markings up with tarpaulins.

North Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested and charged a 31-year-old man on Thursday, a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

The man, from Bulleen in the city's north-east suburbs, was arrested following a search warrant.

He has been charged with criminal damage, offensive behaviour and mark offensive graffiti.

The man has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on 10 August.
