Crime allegedly committed at a guest house

A 20-year-old Canadian national was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old man at a guest house in the Capital on Tuesday night. The accused has been arrested, the police said.

A senior police officer privy to the case said that the accused, Abhishek, the manager of the guest house, met the victim at a restaurant in Hauz Khas Village on Tuesday evening and befriended her.

“He invited the woman to the guest house and allegedly raped her there,” the officer said.

The victim managed to reach AIIMS and made a PCR call to inform the police about the incident.

Written complaint

“She also gave a written complaint in the matter,” the officer said.

The police said the woman’s statement was taken before the court under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“The accused was arrested under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and produced before the magistrate,” the officer said.

Visit with friends

According to the police, the woman had come to India with a group of friends less than a week ago.

The purpose of the visit was not work or education, the officer said.

“The crime scene is being inspected and other legal actions are being taken in the case,” the officer said, adding that the Canadian High Commission here has been informed about the incident.
