Ferrari 488 Challenge Powerslides At Misano, Shreds Tires In No Time

Forget the 488 GTB and 488 Pista, because with enough zeros in your bank account, you could buy a Ferrari 488 Challenge.

Described as “the most powerful car in the history of one-make series”, the supercar came out a few years ago. Essentially a track-tuned version of the 488 GTB, the 488 Challenge promises “new and high levels of performance”, with improved aerodynamic that offers higher downforce.

Powering the Italian beast is the same twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 engine found in the street-legal model. It continues to push out 670PS (661hp / 493kW) and 760Nm (l561b-ft) of torque. However, thanks to the extra work carried all around, the Ferrari 488 Challenge is a heck of a lot faster than the 488 GTB, which takes 3.0sec for the 0-100km/h (0-62mph) sprint, and maxes out at 330km/h (205mph).

Now that we’ve reminded you what the racer is all about, it’s time to see it in action once again. The following video was shot from inside a Ferrari 488 Challenge, at the Misano circuit, in Italy, and shows it being pushed hard in between the apexes.

The 16 turns of the 4.2km (2.63mi) long track turned out to be a challenge (pun intended) for the supercar’s tires, which were eventually shredded, as per the man driving, who admitted that he wasn’t looking to improve his time, but rather to have as much fun as possible. And we think he achieved his goal, wouldn’t you say?
