A faculty member of a private coaching academy was allegedly accosted by two men on a scooter on Tuesday night, who abducted him and took him to an ATM where they forced him to withdraw money.
In his complaint to the police, the victim said the men forced him to take them to his paying guest accommodation, from where they grabbed seven mobile phones that belonged to the student residents.
The incident occurred around 8.45 p.m. on Tuesday night at the Banashankari bus stop. Harish Balachandra Nagasamudra, 27, who works as an assistant professor with an academy in Jayanagar, and had taken a bus to his PG accommodation in Banashankari. As he got down and began walking, he was allegedly waylaid by a duo on a scooter.
Nagasamudra told the police that one of men brandished a dagger and snatched his laptop. When he tried to resist and pushed one of the men to the ground, the other man allegedly stabbed his left hand and snatched his wallet, which contained ₹400 and a debit card. The duo then took Nagasamudra to an ATM at Sarakki Junction. There, they mistook his account balance to read ₹12,000, instead of ₹1,200. “When I gave them ₹1,000, they started beating me again. The guard who was sitting there could not do anything,” he said.
Unhappy with the poor haul, the two men questioned him about his accommodation and learned that it was filled with students. They went to the PG accommodation and robbed the students as well before fleeing.
Police are analysing CCTV footage to identify the duo.
