DMK man gets bail in gutka unit case

Coimbatore: The Madras high court on Thursday granted bail to the former Kannampalayam town panchayat president, Thalapathi M Murugesan, who was arrested in connection with the illegal gutka manufacturing unit case here in May. The court had on Tuesday granted conditional bail to four other accused, including the gutka unit manager Raghuram, in the case. They have to submit sureties before the court to come out of the Coimbatore Central Prison.
Police had on Aril 27 conducted a raid at the illegal gutkha unit at Kannampalayam and seized 3.24 lakh sachets of gutka, pan masala and other raw materials.

The investigation revealed the involvement of Murugesan, who belongs to DMK. Police said, during his tenure as the town panchayat president, banned tobacco products were manufactured in the unit with his support. So, police arrested him in May and remanded him in judicial custody.
