Biju health scheme protested in JSpur

The decision of the State Government establishing 20 new hospitals under the Public Private Partnership [PPP] mode has been decried by the residents, civil society bodies and political parties cutting across party line here as Jagatsinghpur does not figure in the proposed list.

The opposition Congress has decided to go on an agitation protesting non-inclusion of Jagatsinghpur in the proposed list.

Meanwhile, the District Bar Association on Tuesday met authority of District Headquarters Hospital and lodged their grievance.

It decided filing a petition with Health Minister Pratap Jena for intervention, said Bar Association president Raj Kishor Behera.

The public anger is genuine as the State Government has been delivering inadequate health services to residents across the district. The residents from Erasam, Balikuda, Kujanga and port town Paradip are major sufferers following poor hospital facilities. A PPP mode super specialist hospital has been a longstanding demand of the Paradip people.

But, in spite of Paradip being a major industrial hub, it still does not have sophisticated medical service available for the people. Commonly, for critical and advanced healthcare, the people are depending on the private hospitals in Bhubaneswar and the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
