Police atrocities can be prevented to a large extent if the selection process of personnel is refined scientifically so that only those with the right traits are allowed to join the force, former Director General of Police T.P. Sen Kumar said on Thursday.
“Psychological tests should be made mandatory to assess the candidates at the very joining stage and the selected ones should be compulsorily given personality training. For long, muscle power was the only criterion for joining the Kerala police,” he said here while speaking at a seminar on ‘Police Atrocities’ organised by the Kerala chapter of the Newman Association of India.
On the occasion, he also called for reforms in the Acts and rules governing the police.
