FALL RIVER – Michael O’Sullivan, a former newspaper executive and Chamber leader, will be the next president of the Bristol County Chamber of Commerce.

He will begin work on July 2, replacing Rob Mellion, who left in February after nine years as Chamber president.

O’Sullivan was an executive with several community newspapers in southern Rhode Island before leaving for upstate New York. He was president of the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce in Troy, New York and also the advertising director for the Post Star in Glens Falls, New York.

“It’s an honor to become president and CEO of such a great organization,” O’Sullivan stated in a press release distributed by the Bristol County Chamber. “All the staff and board members have done a terrific job serving the membership and the community for a long time. I look forward to continuing that tradition, working with our members, legislators and the community to help the Chamber and the county to continue to grow.”

He takes over from Kimberly Coroa Moniz, who is the interim director of the Chamber. Moniz will return to her job as vice president of the Chamber. She did not apply for the job as president.

Brian LeComte, the chair of the Chamber’s board of directors, said O’Sullivan’s background and ties to the area were key to the board’s decision to hire him. The Chamber advertised nationally for candidates.

“He brings a diverse business background to the Chamber,” LeComte said. “Mike’s experience and energy will help us accomplish our goal of growing our membership and becoming a stronger voice for the business community.”

O’Sullivan is scheduled to begin work on Monday.
