Jewellery worth over ₹1 crore stolen from doctor’s house

Unidentified persons stole gold and diamond jewellery worth over ₹1 crore and ₹2 lakh in cash from a doctor’s house in Nungambakkam. The theft came to light on Wednesday morning after he returned from London.

According to the police, Kaushik, 46, is a resident of Kamdar Nagar, Nungambakkam. He runs a clinic on Jambulingam Street and also works as a consultant in a private hospital in the city. On June 18, he and his family left to London.

On Wednesday morning, he returned to Chennai. Upon reaching home, he entered his office room to take money to pay the cab driver. He found that the money and jewels, including gold and diamonds, kept in the house, were missing. He lodged a complaint with the Nungambakkam police. The police are interrogating the house-keepers and other people working in his house.

Burglary in Saligramam

Meanwhile, burglars broke into a house in Saligramam and decamped with 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery on Tuesday night.

According to the police, Girish, 39, was a resident of Venkastesa Nagar. While he and his wife reside in the first floor of the house, his parents live in the ground floor. Recently, his father had gone out of town. On Wednesday morning, when his mother woke up, she found the almirah open and jewels missing. A complaint has been registered.
