55% seats already filled after 2nd list, courtesy ‘realistic’ cut-offs

With Delhi University (DU) experimenting the “realistic” cut-offs this year, almost 55 per cent of its undergraduate (UG) seats are already filled by the end of admissions against the second cut-off. As out of total 56,000 seats available in various UG courses across the colleges, close to 30,500 admissions have been approved while out of which 26,291 have paid their fees.

The varsity will come up with three more cut-offs for filling rest of its seats, with third cut-off slated on June 30, fourth on 6 July and fifth and the last on July 12. DU came up with its first cut-off on 19 June and the second cut-off on 25 June. Usually three days time is given after the announcement of each cut-off for document verification, approval of admissions and payment of fees.

Both maximum number of admissions and highest number of cancellations occurred at Ramjas College in the north campus of Delhi University, implying that many students just in order to grab a seat at north Campus Colleges prefer taking admissions in the initial cut-off itself even if the college and course is not of their choice. However, on meeting the criteria of their preferred course and college in subsequent cut-offs they go for cancelling their previous admission and take readmission as per their choice.
