KOCHI: The painting of Buddha by the artist Anandavally Bose is a striking work conveying the various expressions of Lord Buddha during his meditation. The Bodhi tree, lotus and forest scene draw in the viewer, conveying various levels of thoughts.It is part of Karma 5, the exhibition at Indriyam Art Gallery, Mattancherry, showcasing the paintings of 12 artists: Asha Nandan, Biji Bhasker, Babitha Rajiv, Deepa Gopal Sunil, Dhanya Greshko, Jayakumar Karunakaran, Mini Mol M N, Manikandan Edakkalathur, Priyaranjini P, Salil P Vasudevan and Sajeev Kongorpilly, apart from Bose. They are all members of the Kerala Fine Arts Association. The exhibition was inaugurated by artist P V Nandan on Monday and is on till July 4.
“The show doesn’t have a particular theme” says artist Sreekanth, who manages the space with three others. The artists say the paintings mainly focuses on the relationship between nature and living beings.
This distinctive collection of works exhibited in the Jew Town location seem to add to its out-of-the-ordinary aura. Against a backdrop of layers upon layers of history and cultural significance, these artists exhibit the raw spirit of nature.
Artist Priyaranjini P portrays the flickering thoughts of a young girl facing the sea and who finally dives in to search for the treasures here. She has also exhibited her sculpture. Sajeev Kongorpilly merges nature with people in his paintings. He has conducted many exhibitions at Durbar Hall and the Kerala Lalithakala Academy Art Gallery in Kalady. “I give a modern touch to mural paintings,” he said.
