Rain claims two lives in Karjan

Vadodara: Two persons died in rain-related incidents in Karjan taluka on Thursday.
Shantilal Vasava (52), a casual labourer, died after the ceiling of his house in Sansrod village in Karjan taluka collapsed due to the heavy downpour on Thursday evening. Vasava’s friend, Shana Vasava, who was in the house, was severely injured. Locals called 108 emergency services and rushed Vasava to the government hospital at Palej in Bharuch district. Vasava’s wife and son were not in the house when the incident occurred.

“The victim’s house was old due and the structure had become weak. Because it rained very heavily on Thursday, the ceiling came down,” said Imtiyaz Khan Chauhan, the village development officer of Sansrod.

In another incident at around the same time, a 38-year-old man died when lightning struck him at Nani Koral village. Sources said the deceased, Dahya Vasava, a farm labourer, was returning home when he was struck by lightning, which killed him on the spot.

Karjan taluka received a sudden downpour on Thursday evening.
