BENGALURU: In a curious turn of events, the registrar of the University of Mysore has informed the government that the varsity cannot initiate any action regarding the removal of its non-teaching staffers. University Chancellor Vajubhai Vala had issued an order to the Higher Education Department asking it to remove at least 120 non-teaching staffers who were appointed in December 2016.
Surprisingly, the varsity registrar said that there was no non-teaching staffer appointed in December 2016. He added that this was mentioned in the inquiry report submitted to the Governor by a committee headed by Dr M R Nimbalkar.
Vala had also ordered criminal case against all the officials who were involved in the recruitment. A committee constituted by the Governor submitted a report suggesting action against former VC Prof K S Rangappa, then registrar Prof Rajanna and then deputy registrar Vishakanta.
In an official reply to the Principal Secretary of the department, university registrar Prof Rajanna stated, “Upon perusal of the relevant appointment orders issued from the university, it is found that there are absolutely no employees appointed as non-teaching staff in December 2016. Hence, implementation of the directions issued from the principal secretary of the higher education department as well as communication issued from your office are inexecutable.”
He added, “The appointments made for the teaching staff were on a temporary basis for 11 months and the contracts have since expired. We are requesting for appropriate clarification to avoid any litigation.” Several academicians and professors of UoM questioned the act of the Higher Education Department.
