Demolition of encroachments to begin today

The anti-encroachment drive in observance of High Court orders began in Dehradun on Wednesday with encroachments being marked in various parts of the city. According to officials, the demolition of the encroachments will begin from Thursday. Those responsible for the encroachments have been given till 8 AM on Thursday to voluntarily remove the same, failing which the encroachment would be demolished by the authorities.

As decided earlier, the teams formed by the state administration started working on marking the encroachments in the city which was divided into four zones for the purpose. The team members undertook measurements and painted red crosses on encroachments along Rajpur Road, Haridwar Road, Chakrata Road and Saharanpur Road. The measurement and marking of encroachments was continuing in some areas till the evening. Officials informed that occupants of encroachments have been given till 8 AM to remove the encroachments voluntarily failing which the same will be demolished by the authorities. The demolition of encroachments will begin on Thursday morning.

Apart from the teams formed by the administration, adequate police force will also be deployed to prevent disruption of the anti-encraochment drive. Officials of the Public Works Department, Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority, Municipal Corporation of Dehradun, district administration, police and other departments concerned are involved in the anti-encroachment drive. The authorities may also impose section 144 if needed to prevent the law and order situation from deteriorating during the demolition of encroachments.  The state administration has already made it clear that the anti-encroachment drive will be undertaken strictly in accordance with the orders of the High Court.
