As the campaign spearheaded by VHP and religious leaders for the construction of  Ram temple in Ayodhya gains momentum, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has called for an executive committee meeting in Lucknow on July 15 to discuss the issue and other matters concerning the community. The AIMPLB executive committee, comprising 40 members, including some women, will meet at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulema. The AIMPLB meeting will also discuss triple talaq. After the Supreme Court verdict in August last year, the Lok Sabha had passed ‘Muslim Women (Protection of rights on marriage) Bill, 2017 in December last year.  The bill is pending in Rajya Sabha and could not be passed as the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) lacks the majority in Upper House of the Parliament. Though the AIMPLB has maintained to be a non-political organisation, it has always supported anti-BJP secular political establishments on Ayodhya issue.

The AIMPLB meeting is expected to endore the old decision on the Ayodhya issue and would wait for the Supreme Court order on the matter. The ulemas and clerics of different sects of Islam drawn from across India are likely to deliberate upon the prevailing political situation ahead of 2019 elections. The board members have expressed concern over the incidents of lynching in Hapur, Jharkhand and other incidents of violence involving minority community. AIMPLB member and one of the vocal executive committee members Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahli said in Lucknow on Wednesday that the executive committee meeting would be held on July 15.  “It is a regular meeting held from time to time and several matters, including Ayodhya, will be discussed,” he said. A board member said that the meeting would also discuss expulsion of Sayeed Salman Nadvi and it could be revoked. Nadvi was expelled from AIMPLB membership in February last at the Hyderabad convention after he supported an out-of-court settlement of Ayodhya dispute and held parleys with spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishanker at Bengaluru and Delhi.
