As the new GST regime made check posts at inter-State borders redundant, the Commercial Taxes Department employees staged a demonstration here on Wednesday demanding that the staff manning them hitherto be accommodated in circle offices elsewhere.
Leading the protest sporting black badges in front of the office of the Commercial Tax Officer (CT), Andhra Pradesh Commercial Taxes Non-Gazetted Officers Association division Secretary J. Narasinga Rao said it was unfortunate that the government was planning to surrender the posts of those manning the check posts in the wake of the new GST regime introducing ‘One Nation One Tax’ system making the check posts obsolete. The services of the Junior Assistants who were working there earlier could be utilised in the various circle offices in the districts, he added.
