Coimbatore: A three-year-old dog was rescued on Thursday from an abandoned well almost 14 days after it fell into it near government girls higher secondary school in Thondamuthur region.
Alerted by the locals of the region, members of the People for Animal, Coimbatore Unit II, came to the spot only to witness a stray dog lying in the 100ft-deep well.
Kalpana Vasudevan, member of People for Animal, said initially we thought of waiting till the fire service personnel arrive. But there was not much movement in the dog, so we decided to rescue it with the volunteers, she said. Volunteers Vinoth, Sekar and Pradeep assisted in rescuing the dog within an hour. She said that the dog’s face was covered with a plastic bottle and it was struggling to breathe .
“It is fortunate that the dog was alive,” she said, adding that the dog was given IV and was let out within a few hours after it was rescued. There is an increase in number of such instances in the region due to large number of abandoned wells, she said.
