Punalur headquarters of the new division

The Cabinet meeting on Wednesday has sanctioned a new revenue division with Punalur as its headquarter, which is a long-standing demand from the hilly eastern regions of the district.

Since Punalur comes in the middle of Pathanapuram, Punalur, Chadayamangalam and Kottarakara taluks, people residing in these areas could now reach the revenue division headquarters in an hour.

Such an arrangement is much to their convenience.

In the district, Punalur has the maximum number of land-related issues including Harrison Malayalam Limited occupying government land, Arippa agitation, and the issues at Sam Nagar colony and Darbhakulam.

The proceedings in all these issues could be completed with the formation of the new revenue division and it will also help in conducting the daily operations of Kuttalam Palace in a more organised manner.

With the sanctioning of Revenue Divisional Office in Punalur, the Revenue Divisional Officer could be now appointed as the Returning Officer of the constituency.

Fifty villages in Punalur, Pathanapuram and Kottarakkara now falls under the new revenue division.

Of the total 5,326 tribespeople in the district, 5,104 persons belong to Pathanapuram and Punalur taluks. Implementation of tribal welfare schemes, including Forest Rights Act and reclaiming of land, could be now carried out more efficiently.
