Canberra Now: Public housing falling apart; last Northbourne blocks for sale
Good morning, Canberra.
Happy hump day! If you thought last night was a little warmer than the previous few, you're not wrong. It dropped to a low of 2.7 degrees overnight. We're in for a partly cloudy day, with patches of morning frost and a top of 13 degrees.
Sit back, relax. Here's what's making news.
Public housing units falling apart
Trish Casey lives in a Belconnen public housing unit where the walls are filled with photos of her children and foster children and where she has a community of neighbours who look after one another.
But with possum urine running down her kitchen walls and bugs eating her carpet, she feels far from at home.
Ms Casey and her neighbours have had long-standing issues with maintenance, where routine issues have become catastrophic because their concerns were ignored.

Last public housing blocks on Northbourne Avenue for sale

The prominent blocks were put to the market on Tuesday as part of the ACT government's sale of land in the corridor to encourage higher-density city living near the city.
The Northbourne precinct is expected to yield 3500 apartments.

Katy Gallagher backed to make comeback

Ms Gallagher first entered the Senate to fill a casual vacancy in 2015, but the High Court found she was still a British citizen when she nominated for the 2016 federal poll, rendering her ineligible to serve in parliament.

How the ACT government is culling pigs
How do you trap a feral pig you may ask?
If you're anything like me, you've probably never even thought about that. But, thankfully, in Blake Foden's story, you'll learn a lot.
For example, you don't want too many moving parts, just some grain, fishing line, a rock and a cage.
