Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, The athletes of Madhya Pradesh State Water Sports Academy displayed a brilliant performance in the Asian Sailing Championship held at the National Sailing Center in Jakarta from 18th to 25th June 2018.
Representing India in the 49er FX Class Boat event of the championship, the pair of Ekta Yadav and Shaila Charles made the state and the country proud by winning the bronze medal.
Amongst the 29 athletes of the Indian team, 8 were from Madhya Pradesh Water Sports Academy. Athletes from 15 countries participated in the championship.
Hon’ble Yashodhara Raje Scindia, the Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare of MP Govt., congratulated the players of the academy for their brilliant performance.
Also, in the Optimist girls’ category of the championship, academy’s Uma Chauhan and Ritika Dangi earned fourth and fifth positions respectively, while Ashish Vishwakarma came fourth in the boys’ category of the same event.
Likewise, in the Laser 4.7 Open category, Govind Bairagi and Harishta Tomar finished fifth and seventh respectively.
Dr. S.L. Thaosen, the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare appreciated this collective and sincere effort of the athletes.
It is noteworthy that these athletes have been practicing under the guidance of Mr. G.L. Yadav, the Chief Coach & Technical Advisor of the Water Sports Academy.
