A MASSIVE fire raging on Saddleworth Moor has forced nearby residents to evacuate their homes as emergency crews battle to contain it - but where is the moor and how close is it to Manchester?

Police have declared the huge wildfire a “major incident” and said the Army is on standby to act if needed.

Unbelievable almost post-apocalyptic pictures have shown flames licking almost 20 feet high into the air as they creep towards homes sat in the valley below.

People living in Calio Crescent, Carrbook, in Staybridge, Grater Manchester, have been evacuated.

The small village of Carrbrook is located at the bottom of the hill.
