Virat Kohli: The record India captain could break against Ireland
INDIA captain Virat Kohli could break a record when his side face Ireland in today’s T20.
GETTY
Kohli is just 17 runs away from reaching 2000 runs in the format for his country.
He has played just 57 matches and is fourth in the list of all-time top runscorers in T20 internationals.
New Zealand duo Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum take the first two places on the list with Pakistan ace Shoaib Malik third.
But if Kohli does score 17 in Dublin, he would be the quickest to reach the landmark.

Indeed, even if he fails in the Irish capital, Kohli should still pass the mark quickest.
McCullum currently leads the way, having reached 2000 runs in his 66th innings. Guptill followed suit in 68 matches.
Kohli’s T20I average is above 50, though he is yet to hit a century in the shortest format.
He will be looking to extend that average during the tour to England and Ireland.
India face two matches against the Emerald Isle before crossing the Irish sea and playing three T20s against England.
There is then three ODIs with the Three Lions before a five-Test series ensues.
That begins on August 1 at Edgbaston with the fifth Test beginning on September 7 at the Oval.
