A woman on a mobility scooter has been injured in a multiple vehicle crash on Wilson Street Timaru.

A woman on a mobility scooter has been injured in a multiple vehicle crash in Timaru.

Police said a vehicle travelling south on Wilson St lost control, hit a parked car, shunting it forward into the woman on the mobility scooter. At least one other vehicle was damaged, but how it was involved is, as yet, unclear.

One of the vehicles also collided with a power pole, cutting power to the area and taking out traffic lights at the nearby intersection with Wai-iti Road.

Three people have been taken to hospital, including the woman on the mobility scooter. All three have non-life threatening injuries according to emergency services.

Alpine Energy hasĀ reported that power is out between Wai-iti Rd, Otipua Rd and Le Cren StĀ and may be out for several hours.

"Linemen are working on the issue now," the company said.

Alpine chief executive Andrew Tombs said 600 customers were affected by the outage, and it was expected 500 of them would have power restored by 7.30pm.

Power would be restored to the remaining customers by around midnight, Tombs said.
