CHENNAI: Several parts of the city received good showers on Tuesday evening which brought down the temperatures considerably.
Weather blogger Pradeep John said the showers were purely a sea breeze-induced and the city could expect
rainfall over the next three to four days, especially during the weekend.
Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram areas can expect some good showers whereas the other parts may have weaker rains, he said.
Met department officials said the Nungambakkam station recorded 3.6 mm while the Meenambakkam station recorded 3.2 mm rainfall between 5 pm and 8.30 pm on Tuesday.
Residents in T Nagar, West Mambalam and Vadapalani all reported good showers. The maximum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 38.2 degree celsius on Tuesday while the minimum temperature came down to 28.3 degree Celsius.
Weather forecasters on Tuesday predicted the next 48 hours to be partially cloudy. Light rain or thunder showers is likely in some of the areas while the temperature will vary between 37 (max) and 28 (min) degrees celsius.
"With the clouds converging at a certain angle, there is an indication of daily rains over the next few days especially in south and north Chennai. The western belt meanwhile will have much weaker rains comparatively," said John.
The showers may vary from light to moderate ones as a result of the weakening of south west Monsoon over Kerala, he said.
These isolated showers may last from 5 minutes and up to 30 minutes.
On Sunday, westerly winds lost strength due to the weakening of the monsoon, giving way to moisture-rich easterlies from the sea.
