Hyderabad HC issues notice to TS, Centre on road safety

The bench issued notices to the respondents and posted the matter to July 17 for further hearing.

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the central and Telangana governments for filing counter affidavits explaining the steps taken ensuring safety standards while constructing roads. The bench of acting chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice J Uma Devi passed this order on a taken-up PIL case based on a letter by VB Rama Rao to the chief justice.

Secretary to the ministry of road transport and highways, state chief secretary, principal secretaries to home and roads and buildings, engineer-in-chief of roads and buildings and others concerned were named as the respondents. Rama Rao, in his letter, referred to increasing deaths of people in road accidents and urged the court to issue directions to the authorities to take steps ensuring public safety. The bench issued notices to the respondents and posted the matter to July 17 for further hearing.
