CHENNAI : No one will ever dare to flick your precious keys hung under Rowdy Ranga’s moustache,” says Subha Kuila, proprietor of The Indian Twist, an online platform that sells creative and quirky products. Started in 2017, Subha believes that the easiest way to attract customers is to produce unusual products that are close to your heart.

Through Indian Twist, Subha supports the works of people with disability, people under the spectrum, destitutes, and a few top designers and artists. She has a strong customer base in cities like New Delhi and Mumbai. “Not all our products are made by the differently-abled. But we do hope to get more products from them, by engaging the talent that is often neglected,” she says. Most of her products are manufactured by NGOs, who are offered good design ideas and encouragement to create wonderful products.

The website and the logo were designed by her friends Praveen Kumar and Padmaja. With the support of restaurateur ‘Hot Breads’ M Mahadevan, the store had its first retail outing a week ago at Writer’s Cafe. Subha approached the café for its non-profit outlook and their role in supporting the victims of violence.  “The people you meet make you look at life differently. Kindness, innocence and the helping mentality fills in positivity in life,” she says.

The store has a range of fun and quirky products — aprons, mugs, beer mugs, shot glasss, coasters, sticky notes holders, office notebooks, key chains, key chain hangers, gift boxes, wine bags, grocery bags, Indianised playing cards, paperweights, and cushion covers for home and office. They are priced between `100 and `650.Subha is looking forward to being part of more retail outlets and create more opportunities for people. They are open to creating customised products for corporate.
