Hubballi: The health department of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (
HDMC) will go ahead with
fogging inside houses instead of outside them to kill mosquitoes in proactive measures to prevent chikungunya and
dengue.
When HDMC realised that fogging outside houses were not having the desired results, it decided to carry out the drive inside homes. Currently, it’ll go ahead in areas where positive cases have been detected and larvae are found in large numbers.
Dr Prabhu Biradar, health officer, HDMC, said it was common practice to spray in colonies randomly. Around 70-80% of the areas would be covered and these include open places, roadsides and other areas.
“Now, to be more effective, we planned to conduct fogging inside houses,” the official said.
The drive is on in Gamangatti, Navalur and other areas. “If people object to it, our staff will try to convince house owners about the need for it. The staff is also conducting Information, Education and Communication (IEC) about mosquito-borne diseases and advising people about preventive measures, Dr Biradar said.
Currently, HDMC is carrying out fogging in houses of areas where positive cases were detected and also in houses of high-risk areas. Once this process is over, it will start the drive in other areas.
A person, who is handling fogging in vulnerable places, said on condition of anonymity that in posh areas, it’s very difficult to conduct fogging inside houses.
“People are reluctant allow HDMC staff to go inside their homes. If people allow it, the drive will help all areas,” he added.
