Nayeem case: Suspended cops set to be reinstated

HYDERABAD: Five cops who were suspended for their alleged links with slain gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin are set to be reinstated soon.

In May 2017, additional SP, Crime Investigation Department (CID), Maddipati Srinivas Rao, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Mirchowk, Malineni Srinivas Rao, ACP, Central Crime Station (CCS), Ch Srinivas, inspector of Kothagudem Rajagopal and inspector (traffic), Sangareddy, Mastan Vali were suspended for alleged links with Nayeemuddin.

A departmental enquiry has been ordered into the matter and the enquiry is still going on. As per the procedure, the suspension orders get reviewed after six months and it has been more than a year since the five cops had been suspended, it was reviewed recently.

A top official confirmed that the proceedings pertaining to revoking the suspension of an additional SP has been cleared by the home department and the matter pertaining to the two ACPs and two inspectors is under active consideration of DGP’s office.

Departmental inquiry to continue

“Even after the suspension is revoked, the departmental inquiry will continue against the five officials,” said a top police official.

In August 2016, Nayeemuddin, a renegade Maoist, was killed in an encounter with police at Shadnagar in Mahbubnagar district. Following the encounter, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set up under the supervision of senior police officials to probe the illegal activities of Nayeem, including murders, extortions and grabbing of land.

The final report of SIT’s findings has not yet been made public by the police.
