Four persons were killed when a pick-up van in which they were travelling collided with a KSRTC bus at Mulakuzha, near Chengannur, on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Babu Y.E, 41, his brother Sajeev Y.E, 37, Azad Pallipurayidam, 47, and Babukoya Pallipurayidam, 44, all hailing from Sea View ward in the Alappuzha municipality. They were working as khalasis.
The police said the accident happened on MC Road at 6.30 a.m. “The deceased were returning home from Karunagappally in Kollam. Their van collided with a KSRTC bus, which was heading to Pathanamthitta. Three of them were killed on the spot. One person succumbed to injuries in a hospital,” the police said.
According to the police, three persons were inside the cabin and the fourth person was travelling in the cargo area of the vehicle at the time of the accident. He was found half an hour after the accident.
The bodies were handed over to the relatives after post-mortem examination at the Government Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha. At least five passengers aboard the bus suffered minor injuries, the police added.
Following the accident, traffic along MC Road was disrupted for over an hour.
