NAGPUR: The Nagpur bench of
Bombay high court on Wednesday directed the state government to explore whether any new educational group is ready to take over
Guru Nanak High School (GNHS) in Bezonbagh, with a view to save future of over 500 students.
The directives came while hearing a PIL (No 51/2018) filed by Nagari Hakk Saurakshan Manch’s president Janardhan Moon through counsel Ashwin Ingole.
The petitioner moved the judiciary after school management — Sikh Education Society (SES) — announced its closure. Even the HC later upheld the management’s right to shut down in March.
A division bench comprising justices Bhushan Dharmadhikari and Zaka Haq made it clear that the school’s land, which was granted to it on lease by
Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), can’t be used for any other purpose. The land was transferred for opening a school way back in 1956 at rates applicable for public institutions.
