As part of its ongoing centenary celebrations, Hertz Europe has revealed 100 alternative attractions in Europe for travellers who are ready to explore beyond the usual tourist destinations.
Hertz’ Guide to Alternative Travel in Europe includes a series of interactive Google Maps, with a focus on popular cities including Rome, London, Berlin and Paris, each covering a multitude of hidden gems for the adventurous roamer. In addition, the brand took the opportunity to showcase some of the most unmissable traditional festivals that Spain has to offer.
Locations include unusual museums, secret gardens, unique art galleries, novel eateries and one-off experiences that have been specially curated for families, couples and solo travellers by Hertz Europe’s in-house travel experts.
The London guide features a broad range of hidden gems, including the Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities at the Last Tuesday Society, where oddities such as dodo bones and shrunken heads are exhibited; the Hot Tub Cinema, where film fans can catch a classic movie while splashing around with friends; or the Barn the Spoon, which offers a spoon carving workshop for something a little different.
In Berlin, travellers and locals can chill out at Badeschiff – a heated indoor pool with its own beach. Those who are more Bohemian might want to take part in a street art tour, while foodies will relish the opportunity to sample an authentic doner at the Turkish Market in Poststrasse.
Rome is home to an impressive array of ancient monuments, but the guide takes curious roamers off the beaten track to the Porta Alchemica, a door to nowhere with an intriguing magical story, and caters to adrenaline junkies with the tandem paragliding experience at Bracciano Lake.
While the Eiffel Tower draws millions of visitors per year, for those who want something completely different, the guide offers recommendations like the subterranean Paris Sewer Museum and the Dans le Noir restaurant, which allows diners to experience the sensations of eating in pitch darkness.
Each interactive map contains all the details travellers need to know, including addresses, prices, opening times and websites.
