Halegannada works are relevant in today’s times because of the message it conveys, said writer Baragur Ramachandrappa here on Tuesday.
In his valedictory address at the first Halegannada Sahitya Sammelana, Mr. Ramachandrappa said Halegannada poets Pampa and Ranna praised their rulers, but they did not stop there. “They showed how they were free from their rulers and not confined to any caste or religion,” he said.
Pampa had written that all human beings are one. “We need to read Halegannada texts to understand the message the poets of the past conveyed,” he said.
S. Shettar, in his address, said Halegannada poets enjoyed higher freedom of expression compared to the writers of the present times. “Now we cannot express our genuine feelings on any issue. We need to read Halegannada to understand how free our past writers were,” he said.
