Members of the Avarampalayam-Ganapathy Railway Flyover Struggle Committee on Tuesday staged a protest on Huzur Road near the South Tahsildar Office seeking speedy completion of the construction of bridges across level crossings in the city.
The demonstration was convened by P.V. Gopal of Peelamedu Consumer Voice, and former Councillor M. Krishnasamy. The protesters expressed dismay over the delay in commencing the construction of a flyover at Avarampalayam and the snail’s pace at which the works were progressing now. The two office-bearers of the struggle committee pointed out that following a fast observed on September 30, 2017 condemning the railways, revenue and highways, the Southern Railway commenced the work on December 7, 2017 and the deadline for completion was fixed for September 2018. Though the works on the part of the railways were progressing at a faster pace, there was absolute lull on the part of the State in commencing its share of work with regard to the flyover, they said. This was not an isolated case, as there were many such bridge works in the city that were half-way through and completion dragging on for months and even years, they said and sighted the slow pace of works at SIHS Colony and Neelikonampalayam..
The members called for speedy completion of flyover on Avarampalayam - Ganapathy Road near Ramakrishna Hospital.
