To protest, tree lovers meditate under trees

Opting meditation over shouting, on the fourth day of the Chipko -II movement, national Capital witnessed tree lovers meditating under trees.

Showing affection towards old trees in Sarojini Nagar, youngsters, children and elderly people performed meditation in a bid to keep themselves calm amid protest.

One of the activists, Meenu Iyer said that ours is a city of 26.5 million as per 2016 census. "If 250 to 500 people land up for the Relay protests that's about 0.00000011percent  to 0.00000022 percent  of the population.  "Do Delhi-NCR folks care about their health and that of their near and dear ones?" Iyer asked.

Explaining the relevance of tress, "Ground water levels are close to nil.  The green cover has been hugely depleted," "And is continuing to give way to concrete at a very rapid pace thanks to greed and shortsighted "re-development" and poor practices for road and transport infrastructure creation."

"The dust storms are a result of the desert having encroached the boundary of this city. And it will spare no one," she said. 

Urging people to make Delhi clean and green, Iyer requested , "So make a start lovers of this city - join in the protest to save our trees. Please! It's a future at stake. It's your health at stake."

Meanwhile , Chipko II participants are deputed in different locations to protect trees. " Night patrolling have been planned so that nobody can chop trees during nights," a participant of Chipko movement.
