FREETOWN — The cause of a Tuesday evening blaze that destroyed a home is still under investigation by local authorities and the state fire marshal’s office.

At 6:24 p.m., firefighters arrived to a fully involved fire at 95 Slab Bridge Road. An evening blaze took 22 firefighters about an hour to knock down the flames, authorities said. No one was injured, but “several family pets remain unaccounted for.”

One dog that had escaped into the woods was later found safe, according to a report from Freetown Animal Control on Facebook.

Freetown was helped by Berkley, Lakeville, Dartmouth, Raynham and Rochester fire departments as well as the Providence Canteen, Red Cross, Freetown CERT, Freetown Animal Control and Freetown police.
