Gangamma Jatara celebrated

Since early hours of Tuesday, hundreds of devotees who came all the way from various distant places of north Andhra region visited the Goddess Gangamma temple.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Fishermen community celebrated the annual traditional ‘Goddess Gangamma Jatara’ with religious fervour on Tuesday, which is customary on the eve of commencement of the fishing season. Since early hours of Tuesday, hundreds of devotees who came all the way from various distant places of north Andhra region visited the Goddess Gangamma temple at the Fishing Harbour and offered salutations to the main deity. Most of the men and women devotees offered ‘Ksheeraabhishekam’ and flowers, fruits and Dakshina (money) to fulfil their vows to the Goddess.

In the evening hundreds of women devotees with family members in tow marched to the temple with a uniform dress code and carrying holy water in pots on their heads from the Beach Road.Tappetagullu, Relli dance and mono action of Kaali Mata, Lord Vishnu, Lord Siva, Sri Rama and Hanuman were performed en route and cultural programmes attracted the public. Entire harbour road was jam-packed with the devotees and traders by afternoon. The evening was no different.
