Ghaziabad: Director general of police O P Singh has said that a commissionerate
system of policing might soon be introduced in select
districts of the state to effectively deal with crimes. Singh was in Ghaziabad to assess the crime rate and general law and order scenario during the course of which he also launched a couple of initiatives.
“A policy group has been formed to assess the need for
commissionerate policing in UP. A detailed proposal is being formulated for the system. The system will be introduced in a few districts,” said Singh.
Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar in the NCR are the only two districts that do not have commissionerates even though it is the norm in Delhi and Gurgaon.
The DGP also flagged off 109 motorbikes for patrolling at Hapur Chungi crossing. This fleet of motorcycles will replace the earlier bikes in service. The police chief also launched an integrated e-challan system in Ghaziabad in association with a private bank, whereby cops will be equipped with a hand-held device for issuing penalties for violation of motor vehicle rules and tracking the original owner of the violating vehicle at the spot. In order to track ownership, the software of the device has been integrated with ‘Vahan’ an application developed by the Union ministry of road transport and highways. Ghaziabad became the first district of the state to have this system.
The system of Dial FIR, an unique initiative undertaken by city police, was also formally launched by Singh. Through Dial FIR, police cases are registered on the basis of details of crime given by complainants to PCR vans. The FIRs are then registered without the complainant’s physical visit to a police station.
