A consumer forum has directed Bajaj Electronics and Voltas to refund payment of an air cooler and awarded ₹3,000 as compensation to a resident after the companies failed to replace a defective piece.
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum-II, Hyderabad, was dealing with a complaint filed by Mounica Otara (27) of Rajeev Nagar. She said she bought the cooler for ₹10,400 on April 9, 2017, and four days later, it developed snags.
A job card dated April 13, 2017, showed that personnel from the service centre examined the cooler and said they had carried out necessary repairs.
However, less than 25 days later, it broke down again. On May 4, the personnel advised that it be replaced. However, a new one was not given by the company.
In its judgment, the forum said the cooler was defective and also noted a deficiency in service. It directed both companies to also refund ₹10,400 and pay 9% annual interest and ₹ 2,000 as litigation cost.
